First steps
Create your project, install the Pixel, and check your first website visit in CJM.
At the end of this guide, you will have a Pixel installed on your website and a first visit checked in the dashboard.
Before you start
You need:
- Access to CJM and to the organization that will contain the project. If you see No organizations yet, ask your organization's administrator to invite you, then refresh the page.
- The address of the published website you want to measure.
- Access to publish code on the website, or to publish in a Google Tag Manager container already installed on it. If someone else manages the site, involve them in installation and the cookie banner connection.
1. Create or open your project
If you already have a project, open it and go to Setup → Pixels, then continue with step 2.
To create a project:
- Open Projects in your organization and select New Project.
- Select Start guide setup.
- Enter a recognizable name in Name. Project Logo is optional.
- Select Create Project and Start.
The project is created and the guided setup opens. To read the five steps, resume setup, and understand the final screen, see Set up your first project with the wizard.
For this first Pixel check, you do not need to connect an advertising account. Open Data Source & Events in the wizard or Setup → Pixels in the project, then continue with step 2. When you are ready to import campaigns or configure advertising conversions, follow Connect your advertising channels.
2. Create the Pixel for your website
- In Data Source & Events, or in Setup → Pixels for an existing project, select Create Pixel on your website platform's card. If there are already Pixels, use Add New Pixel. If the correct Pixel already exists, open it instead.
- Enter the full Website URL, for example
https://www.example.com, and check Website Platform. - Select Create Pixel.
- Under Events, check that
page_viewis configured. New Pixels include this event.
The Pixel now has a configuration in CJM. It is not installed on your website yet.
3. Install it and connect the cookie banner
- Open the Pixel's Installation & test section.
- Choose one installation method: paste the code into the website or use Google Tag Manager.
- Publish the change to the website or GTM container. Use only one method to avoid duplicate events.
- Follow the cookie banner guide, using Settings → Privacy and consent.
Use the complete code provided in Installation & test → HTML. Selecting WordPress, Shopify, or another platform does not install it automatically.
4. Check your first visit
- Open Installation & test → Live verification and leave the dashboard open.
- Open the published website in another tab.
- Accept statistics in the cookie banner you connected to CJM for this test.
- Check for the page-view event and its time in the dashboard. Its initial name is
page_view; if you disabled and re-enabled the trigger, it may be Page Load.
The expected result is an event received in CJM after your visit. The real-time list receives events from the whole project: if several Pixels are active, the event name and time alone do not prove which one sent it. Use the verification guide for a more recognizable test and further checks.
If the result is different
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| The Pixel appears in CJM but no events arrive | Check that the code is published on the correct website, Page Load is active, and the cookie banner is connected. Then repeat the visit. |
| You see Connection unavailable | Restore the dashboard's real-time connection and repeat the check. This message alone does not mean installation failed. |
| A single action produces duplicate events | Check whether the Pixel was installed both directly and through GTM. Keep one installation method. |
| Setup shows Setup Complete!, but there is no data | Check the individual step statuses and repeat the website test. The final setup screen does not confirm event delivery. |
Once visits arrive, configure one useful action, such as a click on your contact button, and verify it too. For actual contact details or orders, follow the lead capture or ecommerce guide.
