Use Google Tag Manager with CJM
Understand where GTM is connected and how it differs from an advertising channel.
Google Tag Manager (GTM) is not an advertising channel in CJM. Its connection appears under a Pixel's Installation & test → Google Tag Manager and lets CJM select a GTM account, container, and workspace, then create or update the Pixel tag.
Use the complete Install the Pixel with GTM guide for prerequisites, dashboard installation, manual installation, publication, and verification.
Keep these connections separate
| Connection | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Meta Ads or Google Ads in Setup → Channels | Import campaign data and prepare platform-specific reporting and conversion features |
| Google Tag Manager in the Pixel's Installation & test section | Install and publish the CJM Pixel tag in a website container |
Connecting Google Ads does not connect GTM, even when both use the same Google account. Connecting GTM does not import Google Ads campaigns or enable Google Ads conversions.
After pushing the tag, also connect the website's consent banner and verify an event in CJM. A successful GTM publication only confirms that the container version was published; it does not prove that CJM received an event.
