Connect Google Ads

Authorize Google Ads, select the customer account, and import campaign data.

Connect Google Ads to make the project's Google campaigns available in CJM and prepare the account for Offline Conversion and Server Tracking. Use Signals afterward to verify delivery.

Before you start

You need:

  • the correct CJM organization and project selected;
  • a Google account that can access the intended Google Ads customer account;
  • permission to approve Google Ads access on Google's authorization screen.

CJM requests the Google Ads authorization used to view and manage accessible advertising accounts. It supports customer selection, campaign imports, reporting, and conversion uploads. Approving access does not create conversion actions or start sending conversions.

If the customer account is managed through a manager account, use a Google user that can reach the customer through that manager. CJM keeps the related manager reference when it is needed for access.

1. Authorize Google Ads

  1. During guided setup, open Marketing Channels. For an existing project, open Setup → Channels.
  2. Find the Google Ads card and select Connect.
  3. On Google, sign in with the account that can access the customer used by this project.
  4. Review the requested access and complete authorization.
  5. Return to CJM. If the card shows Incomplete, select Complete Setup. If it already shows Active, select Manage to check the selected account.

Authorization connects Google Ads to the current CJM project. You still need to select the customer account that CJM must use.

2. Select the customer account

  1. Open Complete Setup or Manage on the Google Ads card.
  2. In Select Customer Account, choose the account that contains the campaigns for this CJM project.
  3. Check the account name and ID. An item marked Manager is a manager account; an item marked Not accessible cannot be selected.
  4. Select Save Configuration.

The saved customer determines which campaigns CJM imports and which Google Ads account is used by later conversion settings. Selecting the wrong customer can produce valid data for the wrong business, so check the ID as well as the name.

Conversion actions are configured separately in Offline Conversion. Website events also require the CJM Pixel and an appropriate Server Tracking rule; use Signals to verify delivery.

3. Import campaign data

Use a manual import when you need historical data that predates the connection or you want to refresh a specific period.

  1. On the connected Google Ads card, select Import Data.
  2. Choose a preset or select the start and end dates. The available interval ends today and can cover at most one year.
  3. Choose Daily, Weekly, or Monthly granularity.
  4. Select Start import.
  5. Follow the floating Imports in progress panel until the job shows Completed or Failed.
  6. Open Acquisition, then select a date range included in the import to check the channel and campaign data.

Granularity controls how the selected period is processed; it does not change campaign settings in Google Ads. Starting the job confirms that the import was queued, not that every row was imported successfully.

Connection states and actions

What you seeMeaningWhat to do
ActiveAuthorization and a customer account are availableUse Manage to check the customer or Import Data to load a period
IncompleteGoogle authorization exists, but the customer account has not been savedSelect Complete Setup, choose the customer, and select Save Configuration

Reconnect repeats Google authorization for the same project. It is useful after access changes or an expired connection; it does not create a second connection.

ProblemWhat to do
The expected customer is missingCheck that the Google user has direct or manager-account access to it, then reconnect with the correct user.
The account shows Not accessibleAsk the Google Ads account administrator to grant access. The entry cannot be selected in CJM until Google reports it as accessible.
The card remains IncompleteOpen Complete Setup, select a customer, and finish with Save Configuration. Authorization alone is not enough.
The wrong campaigns appearOpen Manage and compare the saved customer ID with the intended Google Ads account before importing again.
An import shows FailedCheck that the customer is still active and accessible, then retry a smaller date range. Reconnect if the card also reports an error.
No conversions appear in Google AdsConnecting the channel does not create or enable conversion actions. Complete Offline Conversion or the relevant Server Tracking rule, then verify the flow in Signals.

The dashboard currently exposes Manage, Reconnect, and Import Data, but no disconnect action. Do not revoke access in Google unless you intend to stop the integration.
